Privacy Rights with the IRS

IRS Privacy Rights

Taxpayers have certain privacy rights when it comes to the IRS. They have the right to expect that any IRS inquiry, audit or enforcement action will comply with the law and be no more intrusive than necessary. Taxpayers also have the right to expect that the IRS will respect all due process rights, including search and seizure protections, and provide a collection due process hearing when appropriate. Also, the IRS can’t seize a personal residence without court approval, and the agency must first show there’s no reasonable alternative for collecting the tax debt.
